Last weekend I was lucky enough to be given the opportunity to direct another short film that I wrote, this one called ‘Polkadot’. I submitted it to the film society here at UCLA (FPS) and fortunately it was selected for production!
The story follows a day in the life of a self-destructive children’s party princess who absolutely loathes her job and colleagues. So a bit different to the kind of thing I’ve done in the past! It was inspired considerably by Grace’s visit, and our trip to Disneyland.
The shoot was a little stressful to say the least, but we managed to combat pretty much every curveball thrown our way more or less. We shot in two locations – a dressing room in the Eclectic Theater and on stage in the Secret Rose Theater. It turns out that a scene from The Disaster Artist was shot at the Secret Rose, so it was very cool to find that out after we wrapped!
We’re currently in the process of editing, with a view to hopefully having a rough cut done by June 2nd (FPS end of year Gala). Now onto the next film – The Frozen – which I’ll be directing on Memorial Day weekend. Busy busy busy!
